Something happened on the rocks this week. A whole cast of mermaids arrived at once, every one of them with a sidekick, an opinion, and a line she had clearly been saving. I took notes from the dock. Nobody asked me to. This is what showed up, and where each of them lives now on Mermaid Dayz.
The ones who said it out loud
The loudest arrivals came with the words already printed. Absolutely Not. Hard Pass. Talk To The Tail, which a crab now holds up on a sign in case anyone missed it the first time. Those are gathered in Talk To The Tail ~ Comebacks and Boundaries, and the pure lettering, the ones with no mermaid in the picture at all, just her handwriting and a tail, sit in Zero Fins Given. Salty Hair Don't Care is there. So is Keep Your Drama Above Sea Level, which several of the residents took personally.
The ones who brought a glass
Then the ones who brought a glass. A martini on the rock, champagne on the dock, a cabernet with crackers that a seagull has been eyeing since Tuesday. Not My Emergency sets the tone for Pour Decisions, and nobody in it is in a hurry. The lobsters came right behind them with bouquets and proposals, and were graded on the spot in Try Harder, Darling. Is There A Part Two remains the kindest thing anyone said to a lobster all week.
The ones who were busy
Some of them had staff. An octopus mixing, an octopus brushing, an octopus holding the to-do list with the drink at the top of it, all of that is Room Service and Adulting On Pause. The hair situations, the pearls straight from the oyster, the mirror held by somebody with eight arms, went to High Tide, Higher Hair. The snack disputes, and there were many, are being heard in Get Your Own. The drama, the puff, the too-much, that is Olive The Drama, and it is doing great.
The ones who were not busy at all
And then the rest, who did nothing much and did it beautifully. Reading on the dock, a boat full of flowers going nowhere, a sunset watched from a chair: Mermaid Time. The pairs and trios with their heads together and a story that could not wait: Spilling Sea Tea. And the ones who were simply not taking questions, sunglasses on, subject closed: Salty & Unbothered, which is where I would start if you only start somewhere once.
Who this is for
You already know. She has said at least three of these lines this month, and she said them from a rock, at least in spirit. Find the one that is her, or the one that is you, and let the tide handle the rest.
